Description
The Pink Moab Walls is a mixed-media interpretation of the canyon landscapes surrounding Arches National Park and the Colorado River near Moab. Inspired by a moment of stillness along the roadside, this piece captures not just the physical beauty of the canyon walls, but the deeper feeling of noticing what is often overlooked.
From a distance, the viewer is drawn into sweeping layers of pink, orange, and earth tones—echoing the towering rock formations of Moab. Up close, however, the surface reveals a hidden world. Embedded throughout the walls are tiny trinkets and symbols: a cow, a starfish, a pig, a cross, an airplane, and fragments of toys. These objects blur the line between natural landscape and human imagination, suggesting that memory, play, and meaning are layered into every place we visit.
A lizard rests quietly in the grass below, while a small fish appears mid-motion, bringing life to the foreground. An angel emerges subtly within the pink canyon, and a dove glides across the sky above—quiet symbols of presence, protection, and peace. On the left side, a sculpted clay face peers out, as if the land itself is watching.
The piece is rich in texture, incorporating beads, found objects, and sculpted elements, creating a tactile surface that mirrors the rugged complexity of the canyon walls. As with many of the artist’s works, a vial containing pearls and a mustard seed is included—referencing faith, intention, and the quiet power of small beginnings.
The Pink Moab Walls invites the viewer to slow down and look closer—to move beyond the fear of the “narrow path” and discover the beauty that exists just beyond where we usually focus.
