Description
Lizard Man is a layered mixed-media piece that reveals more the longer you study it. At first glance, the image resembles a lizard-like creature formed from shifting textures, beads, glitter, and color. The surface has a reptilian quality, with green tones and reflective elements that catch the light. Green beads and other small decorative materials sit on top of the composition, adding dimension and sparkle, while glitter gives the piece a shimmering, almost otherworldly effect.
When the viewer looks more closely, another image begins to emerge from within the layers. Hidden inside the lizard form is the body of a man. His abs, chest, and portions of his legs slowly become visible, and what may be a hand appears among the shapes. The human figure is embedded within the creature, creating a visual illusion that shifts depending on how long the viewer studies the piece.
The work also contains words placed subtly within the composition, including sex and love. These words glow in the dark, revealing themselves when the lights go out and adding another layer of surprise to the piece. Like many of Pilch’s works, Lizard Man invites viewers to look beyond the surface and discover hidden images, meanings, and emotions embedded within the materials.
